MySQL and MariaDB: upkeep for WordPress and PHP
MySQL and MariaDB are rarely a choice our clients made on purpose. They come with WordPress, WooCommerce and many PHP applications, and they keep working until a backup turns out to be missing or a page waits seconds for one query. That is usually where we come in.
What we do with MySQL / MariaDB
Systems taken over from someone else
When we take over a site, store or PHP application, the database comes with it. We check versions, users and access first, because that is where old setups hide their surprises.
Backups that have been restored
A backup counts once it has been restored somewhere. We schedule dumps, keep them off the server and test a restore, so a failed update is an inconvenience rather than a lost store.
Slow queries and moving on
A slow WordPress or WooCommerce page is often a handful of queries without an index. And when the application moves to a new stack, the data has to come along, so we plan that migration with the rest.

Other technologies
The rest of the stack, each with its own services and projects.
